Oh, Danny ‘Bhai’, Mumbai’s callingStand-up comedian Danny Bhoy from Scotland is Mumbai bound. Come September 4, and this young Scot will get Mumbai laughing to his razor-sharp one-liners and comic acts on stage. Danny began stand-up in 1998, inspired by seeing his first comedy show at the Edinburgh Festival, and he’s been laughing with his audiences since.

In 2004, he set the record for the most tickets ever sold at the New Zealand Comedy Festival and he even launched his DVD at the prestigious Syndey Opera House. In November 2005, Danny was also invited to take part in the inaugural Las Vegas Comedy Festival alongside some of the biggest names in comedy including Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Robin Williams and Steve Martin. “The point of stand-up is its sense of danger, of the spontaneous moment when anything might happen. Comedy should, to some extent, be dangerous. There has to be a live feel about it, otherwise you might as well go and get a film out,” says Danny. As a youngster, Danny was named a Scottish Young Achiever and got to meet the Duke of Edinburgh. And Prince Philip reportedly told him, “You’re very funny, but you’re weird, though: you speak Scottish but you look like a bloody Indian.” That’s ‘cos Danny’s father’s an Indian who married a Scottish girl in the face of family opposition on both sides. How very like our Hindi film scripts! Granted he ain’t no Danny Ocean of Ocean’s 13, but this Danny sure can make people laugh if the number of awards and honours he has received till now are anything to go by.
